GUINNESS WORLD RECORD‐SETTING COMBINATION REUNITES FOR FIRESTONE INDY LIGHTS SEASON FINALE
By Logan Gomez
October 8, 2009
“We’re really happy to be reuniting with Logan for this weekend’s race in Miami,” team
owner Sam Schmidt said. “Logan has done well for us in the past, and we expect a good
result out of him this weekend driving the IZOD car.”
In the team’s Chicagoland victory, Gomez and team set a Guinness World Record by winning with the closest margin of finish ever in a car race at 0.0005 seconds over teammate and 2007 Firestone Indy Lights champion Alex Lloyd. A repeat performance would be nice for the team, albeit in a less dramatic fashion.
“I’m very excited,” Gomez said. “It’s great to be with a team that I’ve won with in the past. It’s short notice, but I’m prepared to do my best for the team and IZOD. I have to thank both Sam Schmidt Motorsports and IZOD for providing me with this opportunity to get back into the car.”
In 35 previous Firestone Indy Lights starts, 20‐year old Gomez has one win, six additional top‐fives, 18 top‐10s, and 22 laps led.
Practice for this weekend’s event begins Thursday night at 6 EDT with qualifying and the race taking place on Friday.
The Homestead‐Miami 100 can be seen LIVE on Friday night at 6 on VERSUS.
