Funk Finishes 8th in the Nation!
By Larry Funk
October 5, 2009After skipping a soggy qualifying session on Tuesday, September 22nd, Larry Funk, driving a Honda CRX Si, qualified with a time of 2:37.613 with an average speed of 91.36 mph in 5th place on Wednesday, the 23rd. As a result of a tire balance problem on Thursday, the 24th, his final qualifying position was 11th for the race on Friday, September 25th.
During the race, Funk had an excellent start and by the end of the first lap had moved into 6th place. Then, on lap 4, Funk spun in a competitor’s oil and fell back to 15th position. Gaining or maintaining a position per lap, Funk finished 8th overall out of 30 cars in the FP Class with his fastest lap time for the week at a 2:36.825 with an average speed of 91.82 mph during the race. A special thank you goes out to Funk’s longtime friend, Jay Lutz, who served as Crew Chief during the Event.
Beginning Sunday, October 4th, the FP Race can be seen on demand at www.SpeedcastTV.com with all the action from the 2009 SCCA National Championship Runoffs, including unseen in-car footage and slow-motion replays!
