Nick Evans Wins in SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup

Nick Evans, of Powell, OH. scored his breakthrough SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup victory September 11, 2010 at Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, UT. The Ohio State student who races exclusively with the support of Mazda solidified 3rd place in the season championship. Evans also grabbed two more pole positions in qualifications which brought his season pole total to five. 

Race one, saw the TEAM MER driver escape early on while dicing with eventual championship winner Brad Rampelberg. Evans continued his domination of the weekend cruising to a .731 second victory over team-mate Jeff Mosing. The win validated Evans after he nearly won the event two weeks prior in Canada.

"I feel like I've been waiting to get my first MX-5 Cup win all season, and I finally got it,” said a joyous Evans after race one. “It's great to get this first win, and I'm thrilled to share such an exciting race and podium celebration with my teammate Jeff Mosing.”

Race two, got off to a good start with Evans leading lap one. A hard fought battle with Lyonel Kent ensued. With two laps remaining, and victory in sight, Evans suffered an ABS failure which caused him to fall back in the running, eventually garnering a sixth place finish.

"I almost had two in a row,” said Evans on Sunday. “Even with the issues, there is no better way to end a great season with MAZDASPEED Motorsports, ProMotion Driver Development, Sparco and BFGoodrich, than securing that elusive first victory!”

Evans shifts his focus now to the SCCA formula car ranks for the SCCA National Championships at Road America September 21-26, in defense of last year’s Formula Enterprise National Championship.
