ANDERSON, IN (July 21, 2009) - Created in 2008 as an added bonus race to the Krahl Construction Great Lakes Pro Series (GLPS) program, the second annual Stock Moto Endurance Race will take place August 1 at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Running in conjunction with the KRA Series double header weekend, the GLPS 125cc Stock Moto event will run following the regular racing action Saturday with a possible $1,100 going to the winning team.
The event, open to any competitors 14 years of age or older, will contest the 1-mile New Castle, Indiana circuit for a total of 125 laps. Last year, the event was won by the duo of Kurt Mathewson and Jason Lee. Each team, either made up of 1 or 2 drivers, will contest the event aboard a 125cc Stock Moto package per current GLPS and KRA rules. The field will be set by qualifying to take place during the KRA race schedule break. Teams may compete on MG Tires (FZ) or Bridgestone (YHC/YJC) tires but must race on the same tires that competitors qualify on. Based on 20 entries, the winning team will receive $1,100 for their efforts with cash prizes going back to sixth place.
"We are very excited for the second running of the Stock Moto Endurance Race," commented Great Lakes Pro Series promoter Terry Riggins. "Last year's event was a great opening event and we are looking to continue to build this into something larger each year. We are happy to be working with both the New Castle Motorsports Park and the KRA Series this year. The Stock Moto package is slowly gaining momentum across the country. With the success the Dismore's have with their TaG endurance races, we felt we could offer something for those that enjoy grabbing six-gears."
Lee, the current GLPS Stock Moto championship leader, and Mathewson, the current Masters Shifter point leader, are scheduled to be competing once again this year to defend their title with a number of new competitors joining in the mix this year. GLPS supporter National Kart News will offer Editor Mike Burrell as he will partner with Tim Hans. New Castle regulars Eric Batt/Jay Vormwald and Vince Schneider/Chris Arbuckle will be among the teams entered to take away the title from Lee/Mathewson. Evan Batt is a notable entry as he is currently the only driver set to contest all 125 laps alone. GLPS will also be welcoming entries for those aboard a Rotax DD2 as GLPS a Rotax Max Challenge USA Qualifying Series.
