Castrol Edge Winternationals …IT’S A WRAP!
It’s the biggest and best Drag Racing event on the Australian calendar.

Event had the XX-factor!

Quote, “A lot can be said about the excellence of the 2010 Castrol Edge Winternationals, but something the sport can be proud of occurred over those four days and that was the XX-factor added to the event’s credentials, through the success of female competitors.

The Winternationals advanced the cause of drag racing immeasurably when females succeeded in a wide number of areas at an event that customarily has been a tough nut to crack for the half of our population who carry two X chromosomes.

In a first for the sport three females were crowned Australian Champions – Christine Steffens in Supercharged Outlaws, Kelly Corbett in Modified and Terri Sander in Super Street.

They join Twinkle Taylor (Competition Bike 1983), Donna Sizmur (Super Stock 1991 and 1992), and Margaret Hartill-Law (Super Street 1993) on the honour board of female Australian champions.

Sander is the second female to claim the Super Street title following the 1993 victory of NSW’s Margaret Hartill-Law.

The North Queensland Cowboys cheerleaders provided sparkle and colour on the start line, as well as the Castrol girls and a variety of other promo outfits, not forgetting the many reverse gear girls.

Even the National Anthem was sung by a female, Nicky Steel.

The Best Engineered Award also had female involvement as it went to the Schwartz family’s Junior Dragsters, driven by Kaine and Acacia Schwartz.

About 10 percent of the entries at the Winternationals were females (including about 40 percent of Junior Dragster entries), but with more and more women and girls flying the XX chromosome flag in the sport, it is likely these types of success stories will keep being racked up.” – Lex Swayn.
